Job Description
NSC Technologies is currently hiring Outside Machinist in Jacksonville, FL!

The Specialists are responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safety, with the highest quality, in a professional manner. Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job.


A. Sets up and operates conventional and special-purpose machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, and fits and assembles machined parts into complete units.

B. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders and shapers.

C. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed coolant flow and deptch and angle of cut.

D. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.

E. Verifies conformance or finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring instruments.

F. Set up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings.

G. Fits and assemble parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools and power tools.

H. Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.

I. May install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines and equipment and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.

J. Knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques.

K. Blueprint reading, sketches, drawing, manuals, specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished work piece, sequence of operations and setup requirements. Measures, marks, scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.

L. Assure that a WAF ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished.

M. Assure that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished.

N. Have experience in machinery overhaul and installation and testing of all the following: winches, steering gear, pump and motor alignments, valve repairs, diesel engine repairs, reduction gear repairs, generator repairs, boat davit repairs, bearing fit-up and installation

O. Tool Operation Requirements: operator grinder and drill presses (fixed and portable), porta powers, and hydraulic jacks


Must be able to access all Navy installations and other shipyards. Must have reliable transportation. Must be able to work aboard vessels, climb ladders, and work in tanks and confined spaces. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment. Must be able to work evening and weekend hours. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of weight.
