Diesel Mechanic

The Diesel Mechanic must be a highly motivated, team player who is willing to help repair and maintain our fleet of company vehicles. In this position, the Diesel Mechanic will evaluate and verify concerns, identify additional needed repairs and services, ensure that all repairs and services are completed timely, test drive vehicles, and stay current on all trainings: ASE, factory, diagnostic tools and safety.

The duties of the Diesel Shop Mechanic standards are to include, but are not limited to:

Perform inspections, maintenance and repairs on heavy duty vehicles, such as trucks, trailers, excavating equipment, skid steer, etc.
Responsible for diesel engines, transmissions, brake systems, electrical trouble shooting, steering and cooling systems.
Repair and maintain diesel engines using hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and machine tools
Diagnose trouble, disassemble engines, and examine parts for defects and excessive wear.
Recondition and replace parts, such as pistons, bearings, gears, valves, and bushings
May weld and cut parts, using arc-welding and flame cutting equipment.
Troubleshoot engine performance problems, make recommendations for repair, and create estimates based on proper diagnosis, repair, or replacement
Conduct annual and routine maintenance of diesel engines
Keep track of the maintenance work on the vehicles per supervisor s guidelines
Ensure service provided is in compliance with safety procedures.
Communicate concisely and directly with the Shop Foreman
Provide an estimate of time needed for additional repairs
Execute repairs according to manufacturer specifications
Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment and tractor/trailer rigs

Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and information
Knowledge in all aspects of automotive repair and maintenance
A fast learner
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent Customer Service Skills
Team Player
Must have a valid driver s license with a clean driving record
Ensure that vehicles are kept clean
Maintain work area in an orderly and clean manner

High School diploma required aptitude for math
Prefer additional vocational training for diesel
Must have at least five years of experience as a diesel mechanic

Ability to work in extreme indoor/outdoor environments (example: hot sun, cold, wet weather, mud, etc.)
Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body
Ability to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time
Be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks
Be able to lift 50 pounds of weight safely without assistance throughout assigned workday
Must have full range or mobility in upper and lower body; ability to work in various positions and environments including stooping, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting for extended periods of time during an 8-12 hour shifts and able to routinely lift heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds without assistance and pushing and pulling of objects is required
Able to work 8 -12 hours per day, minimum 40 hours per week, and overtime as required
Physical work is a primary part (more than 80%) of the job
Repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers
